In Singapore, a director is not always a decision maker
Every Singapore company must have at least one director who is ordinarily resident in Singapore. Foreign founders who have no resident colleague meet that requirement by appointing a nominee, and the practice is entirely legal and very common.
It also means a name on the board can belong to somebody with no economic interest in the company and no role in running it. Screening that person tells you almost nothing about the business. Screening the party who appointed them tells you a great deal, and that party does not appear on the register.
ACRA marks nominee directors and nominee shareholders on the filed profile. The nominee flag is one of the few beneficial-ownership signals Singapore makes public at all, which is what makes it worth looking for. Singapore's register of registrable controllers is filed with ACRA but closed to the public, so where a board is largely nominees, the shareholding chain is the route to the people actually in control.

Officer flags
Three letters worth checking every time
ACRA records indicators against individual officers. They appear on the filed profile as two letter codes and are easy to scroll past.
DQ
Disqualified
The person is subject to a disqualification order and is barred from acting as a director. Finding one on a live board is a reason to stop and check the date of the order against the date of appointment.
DB
Debarred
Debarment follows a company failing to file what it owes. It restricts the person from taking new appointments until the default is cleared, and it points at filing discipline across everything else they are involved in.
ND
Nominee director
The person holds the directorship on behalf of somebody else. Their own profile is not the risk picture. The party who nominated them is, and that party is not on the public record.
How the search works
Start from the company, not the person
Search here by company name or UEN, and the officers come back with the entity. That is the direction the register is built to be read in, and it is the direction that gives you a complete answer: every officer of that company, with the position each holds and the date each was appointed.
Going the other way, from a person to every company they are involved in, is a different exercise. Names in Singapore repeat often enough that a name alone produces false matches, and an identification number is what makes the answer reliable. Common questions
Can I see the directors of a Singapore company for free?
Search returns the entity and its identifying details at no cost. Full officer particulars, including identification numbers, nationality, addresses and appointment dates, come with the filed Business Profile or the Register of Directors.
What is a nominee director, and why does it matter?
A nominee director holds the appointment on behalf of somebody else, commonly to satisfy the requirement that every Singapore company has at least one director ordinarily resident in Singapore. It is legal and widespread. For due diligence it matters because screening the nominee tells you little, while the party who appointed them does not appear on the public register.
Does ACRA show if a director is disqualified?
Yes. ACRA records indicators against individual officers, and the filed profile shows disqualified (DQ), debarred (DB) and nominee director (ND) flags. Debarment generally follows outstanding filings, while disqualification follows a court or statutory order.
Can I search for every company a person is a director of?
Not through the search box on this site, which runs company first. Person-level searches are unreliable on name alone because names repeat, so we run these as custom searches using an identification number.
Is the company secretary included?
Yes. The officer records cover directors, the company secretary, the chief executive officer where one is filed, and other officers on record, each with their position and date of appointment.
Are former directors included?
Historical officers are available. If you need to establish who held office on a particular date, for example when a contract was signed, say so when you order and we will make sure the report covers the period rather than only the current board.
Can I see who ultimately controls the company?
Not from the director list alone, and not from Singapore's register of registrable controllers, which companies must maintain and file with ACRA but which is not open to the public. Control is established by tracing the shareholding chain upward, which is what the Ultimate Ownership Report does.
